SEO might seem scary to some, but all you need to do is arm yourself with the right tools! These are the ones I fall back on for the best SEO support your website needs.

SEO Tool 1 – Semrush

This website is used for keyword research, competitive analysis, site audits, and all sorts of other data-related things. You can create a free account but you won’t be able to access all the cool features that make this website a SEO Nerd’s delight! You can look at the overview of your website, check out your competitors, get a head start on the potential gaps and back it all up with link building assistance.

Be warned, if you’re prone to hyperfocuses that lead you down rabbithole after rabbithole, make sure you grab a big drink before you sit down. You need to stay hydrated while you get sucked into the stats! It’s easy to lose hours, yes literal hours of time, when one keyword leads to another longtail phrase, which leads to organic traffic which leads to competitor gaps which leads to… well, you get the idea.

SEO Tool 2 –Yoast

Known as one of the best WordPress plugins, Yoast is like having blinders on while you finalise your content. When you’re writing, you need to write for humans in an E-E-A-T way. Once you’ve finished, Yoast helps you make sure you’ve optimised the content around the keyword you were aiming for. The Analysis Results give you specific problems and improvements to work on, as well as telling you when you’ve done a good job!

Premium has more features as you’d expect, but as an SEO Copywriter, I find the free version covers what I need. The best bit? It has a traffic light system for SEO and Readability and getting a double green gives me a smug sense of satisfaction.

SEO Tool 3 –SEO Meta in 1 Click

“In 1 Click” is what I like about this one. Add this extension to Chrome, and get sneaky peeks into any website with just 1 click. Find out what others are using for their titles, headers and images. Use it to make sure your own website is hitting some of the basic SEO nails on the head.

It’s like having an X-ray for website optimisation, perfect for spotting missing titles, checking descriptions, and making sure your keywords are on point.

Search Engine Optimisation made easy

So once you’ve written the content for your small business, it’s time to optimise! Tools like these help me to optimise the content I’m writing, not write it for me. I get to focus on the creative, human-friendly side of your content whilst keeping these SEO tools in my back pocket to hit the technical side of things with confidence.

All three tools are either free or have free versions that anyone can use. So check them out and see what you think.

Me, I find SEO and these tools fun and interesting! For some, watching paint dry is a more pleasing way to spend an afternooon. Knowing how to do it doesn’t mean you have to yourself. Using an SEO-focused copywriter to help you create the content that connects with your customers as well as the search engines it a great way of freeing up your valuable time to focus on what you do best – running your business.
